Gong with Passion

I have never considered myself a teacher in any way or have ever had the calling to teach. But one evening this summer at the mountain Smolnik in Slovenia my perspective changed totally. I got a call to teach to play Gong.

My meeting with 3 fantastic girls

It was the evening before we started the in-house training before going on the “Gong-Caravane of Peace 2018“. I had brought my 3 Gongs, my Ocean Drum and my Rainstick to the training and started setting up the stands and the Gongs. In the room 3 girls of 6, 8 and 9 years old were playing but when they saw the Gongs they approached me with BIG eyes. “WHAT IS THAT?” one of them asked me. And I told them to wait a minute.

I finished setting up the Gongs and started playing for them. And they were just amazed. Then as guided from above I started to teach them to play the Gongs with mallets and flumies and the Ocean Drum and the Rainstick. It was fantastic. They just picked it up right away.

It was SO wonderful for me to share my Gongs with the girls..feel their enthusiasm and joy. The played as a team for nearly 3 hours that night switching the different instruments.

The next day at breakfast they were waiting for me and had one of the parents read the handwritten note to me in English..WAUW it meant a lot to me and had me thinking!!! I felt like I got a call to teach to play Gong.

The joy of teaching to play Gong

No I had never thought of myself as a teacher. But I actually HAD been a teacher for most of my grown up years in many aspects of life and I realized that it just meant SO much to me to be able to give and enrich the life of others by playing the Gong.

Since the night in Slovenia I have shared my Gongs with a lot of people new to the playing. Children, young and older men and women and people from all walks of life. And the response is always the same…amazement, joy and connection.

I have taken my call to teach to play the Gong very seriously and would just love SO much to share the experience with you as well. Please check “Do you want to play Gongs?” for more info.

My first Gongland Gong

Gong with Passion, My Instruments

After attending the Advanced Gong Master Training in Italy July 2017 I just HAD to have my first Gongland Gong. I decided on a 36″ Universe Gong as my first Gong and it has definitely been a great joy for me to play it ever since.

I still remember the night I returned home very late and looked at it. MY Gong. I had been driving for 10 hours and nearly 1000 km forth and back to the workshop that day. But I felt NO tiredness at all. Just pure joy.

Getting your first Gong

I think getting your first Gong is always something special. It will always mean something special to you. And as my Gongland Gongs are some of the very first Gongs Rolf made in his own label to me that makes it even more special.

I decided on a 36” Gong as it big enough to make that deep sound I really love. The sound that really just “fills the room” and touches something in everybody. It is a fine size for me to easily take to teachings and Gong Baths and share it with whoever wants to listen or try to play. One thing is playing for yourself but sharing just fills me with joy.

But I admit it I LOVE big Gongs and the day I went to pick up this Gong I fell in Love. REALLY love at first sight. I saw it the moment I entered the room and could immediately feel the vibrations even though it was only hanging on the stand. A fantastic 42” Old Wise Earth Gong. Not for sale that day…but after half a year I bought it. Read the story here.

I had the great joy of having Aidan McIntyre being in Germany with Rolf that day. I persuaded him to play a little and I just want to share it here with you. A VERY special day for me indeed. Hope you enjoy and get inspired 🙂

Gong with Passion

Meeting with Don, Aidan, Christof and “Rolf” the 5th of July 2017 made that evening a very special evening . For two days I had been attending the intro course for the Advanced GMT in Italy led by Christof Bernhard. It was late night and I was on my way from the venue to the hotel when I met Don and Aidan in the hall. I felt it was too embarrassing to turn around and stay so I left the building.

But walking on the other side of the road I could hear Dons voice SO clearly even though I was 100m away from the building and all the windows were closed. I stopped, stood for a little while and then decided to go back.

Looking back at this not very good video, my future with the Gong is all incapsulated in it. My three wonderful teachers Don, Aidan and Christof and not in person but represented by a prototype Gong also my fantastic Gong maker Rolf Nitsch from Gongland. I actually bought the Universe gong in the video as my very first Gong.

Before I left for the training I just KNEW it would change my life. Not knowing exactly how but I just knew. And for sure it has. I have got so many gongfriends from all over the world. People I have met at my two Gong Master Trainings in Italy and the Gongcaravane travelling Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia.
